Dermot O’Leary has said it is a “privilege” to join the This Morning team as a regular Friday host, alongside Alison Hammond.
Issuing a statement, Dermot said: "I'm deeply thrilled and honoured to be joining the This Morning team next year.
"We have huge shoes to fill and we are well aware what a privilege it is to be stepping into them.
"Above all, we want to have fun and for you to be able to kick your weekend off with a smile, especially given the year we've all had."
Viewers will know and love Dermot for his role on The X Factor over the years, welcoming acts like Leona Lewis and Stacey Solomon to the stage on the ITV talent show.
The radio personality has had a busy year in both his private and professional life, welcoming his first child with wife Dee Koppang back in June.
Praising his new This Morning co-host Alison, he finished: "So I'm delighted to be co-hosting with the living embodiment of sunshine on a rainy day. I can't wait to get started."
Alison and Dermot will debut on the show on January 8, 2021, and Eamonn and Ruth will continue to present the show on half-term breaks and holidays.
Married couple Eamonn and Ruth have been fixtures of This Morning for the past 14 years, covering Fridays and summer holidays for their co-stars Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.
Bidding farewell to the presenting duo, the managing director of ITV Daytime, Emma Gormley, said: "We are delighted that Alison and Dermot will be joining the main presenting family on This Morning.
"Alison has provided some of the most memorable moments on the show in recent times and teamed up with the brilliant Dermot we think they are a great pairing in addition to our fabulous presenting line up of Phillip and Holly and Eamonn & Ruth."
Both Ruth and Eamonn reacted to the news by wishing Dermot and Alison the best in their new venture, sharing identical statements over their social media platforms.
It read: "It's a changing of the guard on Fridays from January.
"We hope you make Alison and Dermot as welcome as you've made us over the years. Have a Ball you two!
"It's not Goodbye from us, it's simply Au Revoir until the next half term."
Meanwhile, Alison shared a statement of her own, saying it was a "huge privilege and honour" to have been offered the promotion.
This Morning airs on weekdays at 10am on ITV.
