Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid honoured Captain Tom Moore with a special Pride of Britain Award for raising over £28million forthe NHS.
Pride of Britain presenter Carol Vorderman came on the show to present the award to the 99-year-old, who is turning 100 on April 30.
She revealed that Tom had received thousands of nominations, saying: "Tom, you've raised a quite frankly ridiculous amount of money, you have inspired everyone, young and old alike, and you've given us all something to smile about in these difficult times.
"And the other thing I love is that you've shown us all that being a bit older doesn't mean you have to be weak or vulnerable.
"You are the embodiment of what it means to be a Pride of Britain winner."
She added: "I can't wait to meet you and hand over your award in person."
Fans were left in tears by the emotional moment, as Tom said he was "taken aback" by winning the special Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Award.
He said: "I'm in totally in awe of this award, it's such a prestigious one, and thank you to everyone who voted."
He was also shown a montage of people thanking him for his hard work, including Harry Kane, Joe Root and Dame Julie Walters.
Tom added: "That is absolutely amazing.
"It’s very difficult for me to believe something like this because the Pride of Britain award is a very important one. You are all so very very kind.
"I thank all the people who nominated me for the award. I am very humbled by receiving this magnificent award.
Emotional viewers rushed to social media to comment on the terk-jerking moment, as one posted: "Does anyone else just look at Captain Tom Moore and just start crying?"
Another added: "Crying my eyes eyes out. Well done Sir. Well done Piers. So well deserved you are truly inspirational keep up the fantastic work."
