The Chase returned to our screens this afternoon with a new episode of the popular ITV quiz show.

Host Bradley Walsh welcomed a team of four contestants to the show this afternoon.

The cheeky presenter was eager to see them get through to the final with some money in-hand.

Paul "The Sinnerman" Sinha was in the hot seat on Wednesday trying to prevent the hopefuls from going home with the cash prize.

Jamie, Steve, Abby and Rachel all took it in turns to take on the cash builder and later went head-to-head with The Sinnerman in an intense round of general knowledge questions.

Contestant number one Jamie and second hopeful Steve sailed through to the final chase home and dry but full time mum Abby was caught in her head to head round against The Sinnerman.

Veterinary physiotherapist Rachel was the fourth and final contestant to take on the tough ITV quiz show today.

Things took a turn for the worst for the contestant as she stubbled on a geography question during her cash builder round.

Contestant Rachel stumbled on a geography question today

Bradley asked Rachel: "Britain's most northerly town is in which country of the UK?"

Rachel answered: "Lancaster" when the answer is intact Scotland.

Viewers at home couldn't get over the contestant's "ridiculous" answer.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: "That is the dumbest answer I've ever heard on a gameshow."

Another added: "So Britain's most northerly mainland town is in the country of Lancaster? I'd love to say this is just contestants on The Chase but, intelligence doesn't exist anywhere anymore

A third said: "Did Rachel really say Lancaster?"

While a fourth posted: "Sorry, still can’t get over answering 'Lancaster'. Does she know her name?"

A fifth posted: "That "Lancaster" answer is going to haunt Rachel for years to come."

Despite earning £4,000 in the cash builder round, Rachel failed to beat the Chaser during her head-to-head round.

Jamie and Steve played the final chase against The Sinnerman with £9,000 up for grabs but it was another day in the office for the quiz champion as he caught the duo with seconds left on the clock.

The Chase airs weekdays on ITV at 5pm
