This is the terrifying moment a news reporter nearly got swept away during severe flooding when a bridge she was standing on collapsed.
Fox 46 Charlotte correspondent Amber Roberts was reporting from the scene of an overflowing river in Alexander County in North Carolina yesterday (November 12).
But disaster struck midway through her live report.
As the cameraperson films a shot of the torrent of water, Amber can be heard screaming: “It’s splitting”.
The camera then pans out to show the bridge collapsing just a few meters from where they are standing.
Another man nearby can be seen running away as Amber says: “This is incredible. Okay, we’re backing up.
“Just right here live on TV we saw the road collapse, the same road that we were just standing on seconds ago.”
The heart-stopping moment has gone viral after being shared to Twitter, with many viewers praising the reporter for staying so calm.
“Amazing job keeping her composure,” one Twitter user wrote.
“A raise and probably a change of underwear, I know I would need one,” another person wrote. “That was too close.”
“How did Amber not unleash a string of obscenities that would make a sailor blush?” another added. “I would have been fined into bankruptcy by the FCC. She is a classier person than I.”
Heavy rainfall has damaged roughly 50 roads across Alexander with a total of four bridges being destroyed.
Four people have been killed and a one-year-old child is missing after a campsite was flooded. Officials say 31 people have been rescued and they are still looking for others.
