Ben Shephard told Good Morning Britain viewers on Thursday that there was a "new woman" in his life, and he was quite excited about it.

The 45-year-old explained his wife Annie, who he married in 2004, has started wearing glasses and he didn't recognise her when he got into bed with her.

The Tipping Point host told Susanna Reid, 49, and Kate Garraway, 53: "Annie's started to wear glasses.

"I've been away quite a lot doing Tipping Point at the minute, and I came home and we were in bed reading and I turned around and she had her glasses on.

Ben joked there was a "new woman" in his life

"I didn't recognise her, I was like, 'Ooh, wow, who's this?'"

He went on: "It was just a little moment where you think, 'Hold on a second...'

"After 20-odd years there's a new person in my life. It's really exciting."

The chat about glasses came as Kate had been forced to put on her specs as she had picked up an eye injury.

His wife Annie has changed up her look

Earlier in the episode, Kate said: "I've injured my eye. I don't know what I've done to it, but I'm going to get it checked today."

When Ben and Susanna joined her on the show, her glasses makeover caught their attention.

Susanna decided to get in on the action and slipped on her own glasses too.

She said: "Kate, I'm absolutely loving your glasses. I've got a bit of glasses envy. I just need mine for reading tiny print."

Playing around with the placement of her glasses, Kate joked: "Mine are a bit smudged, they're a bit Eric Morecambe. I think I've sat on them."

On Wednesday, Kate opened up about her eye injury while on her radio show.

She said: ""I've got a really sore eye, it's really hurting. I don't know what I've done to it. So I can't put my contacts in and I'm wearing my glasses."
