Martine McCutcheon's young son was left in a state of disbelief as he watched his famous mum being unmasked during Saturday night's episode of The Masked Singer.

The actress turned singer said the show was a favourite of her son Rafferty, 5, and she signed up in order to impress the youngster who loved tuning in.

During Saturday's episode, Martine's character Swan, took part in a jaw-dropping sing-off with the Sausage which left viewers at home sat on the edges of their seats.

As the episode was broadcast to the nation, the 44-year-old took to her Instagram to share a video of herself cradling Rafferty as they chanted: "Take it off, take it off," in time with the studio audience.

When the Swan lifted her huge mask to unveil her true identity, the curly-haired tot looked on in shock before exclaiming: "What?! Mummy! Mummy!"

Martine, who played Tiffany Mitchell on the hit BBC soap EastEnders smiled as the youngster threw his arms around her adding: "Mummy, oh my God, what?!"

The Laurence Olivier Award-winning actress said she was shocked that she managed to keep it a secret from her only child.

Alongside her post, she penned: "@maskedsingeruk Thank you so much for having me! The most amazing project to be part of! Huge! Thank you to the whole team - what a brilliant bunch of people to work with! I've never known an operation like it!

"I didn't get to sing a big ballad but I DID get to be a showgirl again and also surprise Rafferty by being on one of his favourite ever shows!

Her post which has racked up almost 34,000 likes was instantly flooded with messages of praise from celebrity pals.

Singer Faye Tozer of the band Steps gushed: "Omg!! That is the cutest!!! Congratulations! Brilliant fun!"

While Girls Aloud's Nadine Coyle commented: "Awwww he is adorable!!!!! Such a lovely moment!!!! Well done!!!!"

"Congratulations. That's beautiful," added pal and former EastEnders co-star Patsy Palmer.

"I recognised that voice from our school days. Smashed it x," penned Louise Redknapp.

Speaking about her decision to take part in the show, Martine said: "After lockdown, I missed performing live and I thought it would be fun to perform in disguise. It's liberating to take on a whole new persona."

She continued: "It was so hard, we watched the first series and my little one was hooked - we had to watch it every single week."

The Masked Singer airs at 7pm, Saturday night's on ITV.
