Monday's This Morning brought a delicious cooking segment to viewers with television chef James Martin rustling up some cheese twists and cauliflower soup.

However hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were left in stitches as a number of things went wrong, leaving the kitchen in a proper mess.

At one point the duo had to remind James about the soup as it was bubbling on the hob.

After taking it off the heat, James joked that he'd be spending the ad break cleaning all the appliances.

But it turned out he'd spoken too soon, as when he went to blitz the soup in a blender, it seems the lid wasn't on fully and it sprayed everywhere.

Holly and Phil were gobsmacked, trying to hide their laughter by putting their hands over their mouths, while James despaired.

James was definitely not impressed with himself, seemingly suggesting that producers in his ear had caused him to rush and mess up.

"This is what happens when you do a Saturday show," he said. "You're used to chilling out in your own home.

"Now I've got a director in my ear saying, 'You've got six minutes, then five minutes,' – now I've got one minute, apparently."

As the show continued, James could be seen in the background tidying up the soup mess he'd made.

"There's nothing to see," he joked.

He continued cleaning up throughout the next segment before Phil and Holly asked what he was cooking when he was back on the show later on.

But James seemed completely over the whole situation, saying he'd cook whatever there was left.

In actual fact, he was scheduled to rustle up some stuffing and gravy.

James is used to hosting his own show on Saturday Morning, which sees him cook up some delicious creations.

He shares his recipes online, so viewers can make as much of a mess as he did on This Morning.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV
